Ingredients
When reading the labels of the imitators products look at the first ingredient. The first ingredient will tell you the most abundant element. For example XanGo’s first ingredient is listed as mangosteen. Some imitation products list water as the number one ingredient, others list other fruit juices.
Extract
Some imitation products use the word “Extract” Extraction is a process in which alcohol, water or toxic solvents are used to remove certain elements from a botanical. Some imitators have gone to the extreme of extracting a single xanthone from the pericarp of the mangosteen in great quantities in an effort to circumvent XanGo’s patent and thus claiming “More Xanthones”.
The process of extraction itself is suspect. A little known fact, even in the wellness products industry, is that
the solvents used in the extraction process denatures the therapeutic actions of a botanical’s aromatic constituents. This includes the essential oils, glycosides, etc. Vitamins, enzymes and other micro-nutrients are rendered inert (useless) when brought into contact with these solvents.
